Fellowship Reformed Church Art Studio
Poster making represents one of the richest traditions of political protest through art. High school students and adults are invited to print their own in response to Julia Alvarez’s book, In the Time of the Butterflies, a moving novel that takes place during the time of the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. Alvarez’s book celebrates the strength of women and the noble fight against violence, and we’ll look briefly at examples of how artists and activists have utilized posters to express discontent, raise awareness, and inspire revolution, (particularly in South America). Then, we’ll design and print our own unique posters using the pochoir method and a variety of pre-cut stencils. No experience or skills are necessary!
Fellowship Reformed Church is on the corner of 168th and Lakewood. Enter church through Door D, on the north side of the building.
