Thanks to generous funding from the Michigan Arts & Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential.

CultureWorks seeks to provide equal access for art and design classes to all middle school and high school students, regardless of physical ability, ethnic, racial, gender, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Middle School Photography with Jaer Medina
Grades 6-8
June 15-18, 10 am-12 pm

Learn photography fundamentals with us this summer! With Downtown Holland as our subject, students will be able to experiment with various forms of photography to create unique images. Bring your own camera if you have one, or use one of ours! Students will get to take home CultureWorks cameras during the week of the class to continue practicing.

Earth & Sky: Oil Painting with Emily Christensen
Grades 8-12
June 15-18, 2-4 pm

Learn about the classic tools and techniques of oil painting on canvas as we enjoy some of the beautiful landscapes in downtown Holland. Approach the world that surrounds you with new eyes (and new skills) in this incredible class that takes a fresh look at an age-old technique.

Printmaking, ceramics, iPads, and more! Learn new skills or continue to develop your favorites. Use Tuesdays and Thursdays to pursue whatever medium you’d like, with access to the full studio and instructors skilled in collage, fiber arts, ceramics, photography, and printmaking. Let your creativity run wild!

Beginner Violin and Viola with Lauren Garza

No experience or instrument needed! This class is perfect for students curious about the violin or viola.
Students entering 4th – 6th grade welcome. Students entering 6th grade orchestra in the fall will get a head start on essential skills to set them up for a successful first year. We will explore different musical styles, learn the basics, and enjoy fun games that build musical skills and friendships along the way.
All instruments, materials, and instruction are provided—just bring your curiosity and get ready to play!

Intermediate Summer Strings with Lauren Garza
Grades 6-8 with 1 year experience playing strings

Designed for students with 1–2 years of playing experience entering grades 5–8, this class is a great way to grow as a musician and make new friends!
Each week, students will sharpen their skills and learn new techniques to take their playing to the next level. The focus is on making music together—exploring new pieces and developing confidence in small ensemble settings, including opportunities to lead. Violin and viola instruments are available for use during the class if needed. Cello and Bass not provided.

Beginner Guitar with Suzanne Dorman
Grades 6-8
June 16 and 23, July 14 and 21, August 4 and 11, 2:30-4:00 PM

Join us for beginner guitar lessons! We’ll learn about the instrument, basic note reading skills, intro to chords, and how to play together as an ensemble. August 4 or 11th–TBD– will end with a performance for parents where we share the skills we’ve learned together. No instrument? No problem! We’ll have classical guitars available for your student to use for the duration of class.

Drawing Club with Evan Nickel
