Another beautiful Pride Festival for the City of Holland!
CultureWorks has provided free hands-on art projects at Holland Pride Festival since 2022; it’s a meaningful way for us to build community and support our students, over 1/3 of whom identify as LGBTQ+. We love commissioning local artists to design artwork and help with curriculum development and project implementation, and we love engaging the community in art making!
This year, we had the joy of collaborating on projects with Herrick District Library, Holland Area Arts Council, Carolyn Stich, and Saugatuck Center for the Arts! It was a beautiful day to embrace our neighbors, hold grief & joy, and reflect on our calling to love one another, especially in this time of rising socio-political tensions and degrading/discriminatory actions.
Beyond the making of zines and the writing of poetry, we celebrated life and community. We danced, shared stories, and held space for laughter and curiosity. I often wonder about the name “Pride Festival”…This year in particular, it seemed that those who gathered were filled with humility and grace, and with a collective desire to honor the beauty and sanctity of those around them.
Cheers to all the volunteers and staff who made today possible!
