Join visiting artist Roberto Torres Mata and explore the creative process of printmaking in this 3-day workshop funded by the Mellon Foundation in collaboration with the Hope College Art & Art History Department. No experience necessary! We’ll use an expressive hands-on approach to create work that captures personal history and identity through mark making. This workshop introduces the basics of multi-layer screenprinting using screen filler and drawing fluid for creating posters and fine art prints. With hand-drawn imagery, participants will create a 2-layer color print on paper. We’ll focus on gaining a sense of image building through texture, line, and color transparency. Participants should come with a collection of ideas for images and a readiness to experiment.

The first 2 days, students will learn from Wisconsin-based multi-disciplinary artist Roberto Torres Mata. The following Friday, November 4, students will finalize work and create additional pieces to be exhibited alongside Roberto’s work at the DePree Art Gallery in January and February 2023.
