CultureWorks students were treated to a backstage experience at Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights!
What an incredible show! 16 students and 4 chaperones joined us for an unforgettable night at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts.
The director and cast members were so gracious to meet with students before the performance, and share about their lives on and off the stage. Many of them agreed that Lin Manuel Miranda’s musicals provided them their first glimpse of Latinx characters and cultures on stage, and that to be a part of this community – this family – of performers has been life-altering. Our students and parents have shared that this was a transformative experience for them, as well!
“Thank you” from the bottom of our hearts. My daughter came home excited and couldn’t stop talking about the performance. She even spoke to her grandmother and aunts about how exciting it was to see people like her up on stage. She loved the fact that she knew some of the phrases and could see parts of our friends and family up on a stage. The whole trip left a deep positive impression on her and as a parent I really appreciate it. Thanks to you and the Saugatuck Center for the Arts for organizing such an amazing experience for young Latinx kids to participate in.
With My Deepest Appreciating,
